How I Prep My Son’s Baby Food

How I Prep My Son’s Baby Food

Hello! Today we’re talking about baby food. One thing I am very particular about is what my son eats. Food is essential to our bodies and minds, and it’s important we take the time to invest in what we prepare for our kids. Everything has a connection to our bodies, and what we nourish them with is essential in helping us feel great. As you all know I’m all about that organic food life, and now so is my son. I am not a big fan of frozen food, so you’ll catch me in the kitchen everyday prepping his food, so it can be nice and fresh. Is it a pain to have to be in the kitchen all the time? YES. But is it worth it? Absolutely!

Being able to introduce him to different foods now, helps prepare him for the future. Some of his favorites include kale, salmon, blueberries, and plums. I love seeing how to is starting to eat alone now, and seeing his little face every time he tastes something new is priceless. At the beginning it’s very scary introducing solids because you don’t know if they may be allergic. I went by the 3-day rule. Every time I introduced him to a new fruit or vegetable I would give it to him for 3 days, and see how he would react. So far everything has been great. I started solids at 5 ½ months because I felt like he was ready. He was showing cues that he was ready to start eating solids.

The first vegetable I introduced him to was butternut squash, then carrots and then sweet potatoes. I tried to stay in the family color family for each set of fruits and veggies. The older he got the more comfortable I started feeling about introducing him to certain foods. Now he eats almost everything. I am still waiting until after his 1st birthday to give him eggs, but other than that he pretty much eats everything I eat. I also love this Baby Organic Food book because it gives me tons of ideas. I like picking out the recipes before going to the grocery store that way I know exactly what to buy. I plan on investing in a few more books, and I’ll make sure to post them for you all! They give me inspiration and ideas on what to cook and even if I don’t follow them exactly I’ll tweak them a bit and they still work great.

A typical day for us includes this:

Breakfast: Quick Oats with a little bit of hot water, cinnamon, chia seeds, 1 banana and blueberries all blended in his baby bullet.

Lunch: Green Smoothie- his favorite is mango with kale and peaches or strawberries, spinach and blueberries.

Dinner: Chicken, avocado, quinoa, potatoes all blended in the blender with a little bit of water. You can also add pink salt and pepper for taste.

In between I’ll feed him snack as well. He loves the Stonyfield yogurt or fruits.

Other ideas:

Breakfast:

– Oatmeal pancakes with fruit

  • Oatmeal can be prepared the same way as above, but you can also use different fruit like strawberries, apples, raspberries, etc.

  • Or a combination of blended veggies

Dinner:

  • Chickpea pasta with RAO’s pasta sauce (no cheese)
  • Lentil soup
  • Beans with rice
  • Pesto chickpea pasta
  • Albondigas (Turkey meatball soup with veggies)

A lot of these recipes are modified versions of what I eat. Alessandro loves eating by him, but since he only has 2 teeth I’m very careful about making sure most of his food is blended. I seriously can’t wait till he gets all his teeth! I am also very blessed that my son LOVES to eat. He always gets complimented about what a good eater he is, and I hope he continues this way. I know it’s also up to me to make sure he’s getting all the nutrients he needs for his growing body.

I’m currently on a flight to New York, and I miss him so much! It’s the first time that I leave him for work. It’s so tough, and I have so much respect for all you working mommies. I am blessed to work from home most of the time, so this is a completely new experience for me. Last night I fell asleep at 2 am preparing his food and snacks for the next two days. I always make it a priority that his food is ready. And even I only got 3 hours of sleep before a 6-hour flight; it’s totally worth it! If you have any questions please leave them below!
