Real Beauty

Thank you Dove for sponsoring this post. How do you define #RealBeauty?

This past weekend I hosted an Emmy’s viewing party at my house with some friends. We had such a good time watching the award show and celebrating the women who are strong and influential in the television industry.

Shonda Rhimes is a television producer and writer for some of the biggest hit shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. Dove has partnered up with Shonda Rhimes to honor real women in front and behind the camera to celebrate the strides the industry has made to change the way women are seen on the big screen, making the shift from Hollywood to real women.

With the power of storytelling we are witnessing stories such as Diana’s who help expand the definition of beauty for women and girls. There are statistics that show 7 in 10 girls cannot relate to the depictions seen across film, television and media today. With the power of social media it’s easy to feel pressure to look a certain way, to be a certain size in order to feel beautiful. 72 percent of girls from around the world feel this pressure citing entertainment and media as the source. Thanks to Shonda and Dove for depicting stories such as Diana’s that show how unexpected changes to their appearance do not affect the person they are, but on the contrary only makes them stronger. “Meet Diana” is the third film from Real Beauty Productions that demonstrates how one woman’s inner confidence helps her overcome life’s challenges and regain the belief in her #RealBeauty that goes beyond the exterior.
Diana lost her leg in a car accident but she strived to reclaim her confidence not only in her appearance but on how she handled her adversity. She reached her goal through passion and strength to recover and not only walk but to be able to run again. Diana is an inspiring example on how powerful women are to help the next generation develop confidence in their own #RealBeauty. Being able to dig deep inside of you to fight adversity with strength no matter what is thrown your way is what true beauty is all about.
My real beauty was felt after giving birth. I never imagined how much my body would change after having my baby. My strength was tested during labor and at that moment I truly felt beautiful despite the weight gain and stretch marks. I hope you can see your #RealBeauty and know that we are all truly beautiful despite the changes you may go through and the adversity we may face.
