Friday morning we took a train to Sevilla, which is 2.5 hours away from Madrid. We stayed an an Airbnb near the city center. Our host gave us a quick tour of our apartment, and gave us a few recommendations of where to eat and visit during our stay. Friday we arrived mid afternoon, freshened up and decided to take a walk around the city. We immediately got lost in between Sevilla’s streets which are very easy to get lost in. For dinner we visited La Mafia se sienta en la mesa which is an Italian/Mediterranean restaurant. Personally I absolutely loved this restaurant, the pasta was handmade and everything tasted so fresh. After dinner we decided to call it a night since we didn’t sleep at all the night before.
Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and headed sightseeing. Out first stop was La Cacharreria, which is the most popular place in Sevilla to grab breakfast. The ingredients are high quality and everything tasted so good. It’s a hidden gem tucked away in a back street where you’ll find that Spanish charm along with great service.
After breakfast we headed to Barrio Santa Cruz (formerly the Jewish quarter) for some walking and picture taking. We spent about 2 hours just getting lost in between these streets. Every corner was a picture-op and we couldn’t get enough of this quaint little neighborhood. The narrow winding cobbled streets and white washed houses were picture perfect.
After Barrio Santa Cruz we headed to La Casa de Pilotos. This palace is known as being the best Andalusian palace of Spain and an example of 16th century Sevillian architecture. The colors of the textiles surrounding the palace were astonishing and we loved sitting in the garden admiring the architecture.
We headed towards our apartment, but first stopped at Lizarran Taberna for sangria and tapas. We finished lunch then took a short siesta before heading to dinner at Perro Viejo. Yes, the name is a bit odd, but the food was wonderful. Our host recommended this restaurant and it lived up to his hype. The tapas were incredible from the patatas bravas to the salmon aguachile. If you’re ever in Sevilla I highly recommend this place. After dinner we headed to a coffee shop and just people watched while drinking a cappuccino.
Sunday morning was another early day for us, and we headed straight to the Real Alcazar to beat the crowd since we saw how long the line was the day before. Real Alcazar is a royal palace originally built by Moorish Muslim kings. Sevilla’s buildings are heavily influenced by Arabs and Moorish, and it was very pronominally seen at Alcazar. With the 16th century tiles, ornate arches, aroma scented gardens, it was one of my favorite places to see. Not to mention they also have filmed scenes for Game of Thrones here, which will be getting shut down next month for more filming.
After Alcazar, we went to Plaza España and Park Maria Luisa and both were so beautiful. The sun was pretty bright, so we couldn’t get the best pictures.
On our way home we stopped by Betis street which is on the other side of the river. We walked around the Triana neighborhood and had tapas and vino tinto de verano at a local restaurant called El Papelon. For dessert we went to Rayas for the best ice cream in Sevilla.
Traveling teaches us so much about ourselves. It changes the perspective on our standard of living. It takes us out of our comfort zones and broadens our horizons. Its the only thing you can buy that truly makes you richer. Exploring, eating good food, and enjoying the company of each other is living life. It helps you re-evaluate your goals, and teaches us about other cultures. With limited wifi and being disconnected from our everyday life changes you. I encourage you to take the leap and discover yourself outside of your comfort zone.
