Honeymoon in Europe Pt 1

My husband and I decided to go to Europe for our honeymoon. It was always one of my dreams to travel through Europe and what better time than your honeymoon. My husband lived in Barcelona for about six months while attending school over there a few years ago. He loved it and always told me we go visit one day.

I completely fell in love with it! We flew to Barcelona, stayed there for a few days then went on a cruise that took us through Italy, France and then back to Spain.

In Spain we went to La Sagrada Familia, La Ramblas, Port Olimpico, and Camp Nou which is the Barcelona soccer stadium. We are big Barca fans and seeing the stadium was breathtaking, more for my husband since he’s a bigger fan than I am. I also got to visit their museum and learn more about the club and how important it is. Soccer in Europe is bigger than football in the United States. People have a different passion for soccer. It’s amazing to see the impact a club can have on its fans. A perfect example was when my husband and I were walking through his old neighborhood. An older lady (she must’ve been in her 70’s) walks by us stops my husband and grabs the patch on his Barcelona jersey and gives it kiss and says, “Visca Barca” which means “viva Barca”…”long live Barca” and I just stood there in pure amazement. I thought to myself, soccer is much more than just a sport here, it’s a profound love, a culture, and a way of life.

Las Ramblas is a a strip aligned with trees and full of shops and great places to eat. I was so obsessed with jamon serrano and sangria! La Sagrada Familia is a catholic church in Barcelona that was built by the famous artist Gaudi. This church was so grand when you walk in you can’t stop but stare at how beautifully it is built. The architecture in this church resembles a forest and until this day is still going through construction. They estimate the church will be completed in 2028.

We have a friend in Barcelona who we call panda, decided to take us on a night out to a soccer game and then to Port Olimpico afterwards. The soccer games in Europe are so much more different than they are here. They start around 10pm when ours are already ending at that time. This was all new to me, and when I was at the game I looked at my husband and said “don’t you think we should be heading out it’s already midnight.” He looked at me and kind of smiled and said “the people here don’t start partying until 2am, we have time.” I really underestimated that statement because once we hit Port Olimpic it was insane! There were so many people out having a good time and by the time I knew it, 6 am was rolling around! It was such a fun night and let me tell you people in Barcelona can party! We ended up getting back to our hotel at 8am!

Enjoy some Barcelona Pics…More cities to come! xoXo đŸ™‚
